Bluehost is one of the most effective shared linux web hosting providers on the Internet today. With it's powerful infrastructure and high level customer support, Bluehost has become a reliable source for hosting websites, blogs, and powerful web applications of all kinds. There are however a few things you don't want to use your Bluehost web hosting account for. Let's look at a few of these.

1. Movie, Music, & File Storage

If you are hosting video or audio for your website then of course that's no big deal. But if you are trying to turn your web hosting account into an online external hard drive then you are probably going to run into problems. Bluehost is for hosting websites and web applications, not for storing all of your digital personal items. Doing so will use up too much CPU and hamper your server's performance. Just remember to host "web" things.

2. Mass Email Marketing

Although Bluehost has a powerful server infrastructure for managing thousands of email accounts all within your one Bluehost account, it's not meant for hosting your own Mass Email Campaigns. If you want to send mass emails out to your email list, services such as Aweber or MailChimp are what you need. Feel comfortable using your Bluehost account to setup up to a couple thousand email accounts, but don't use your Bluehost server for sending out thousands of emails in one blast.

3. Online File Sharing

Creating an application or a web based location for allowing hundreds or even thousands of people to share files of any kind can be dangerous. An example of this would be hosting your own site similar to rapidshare.com or other file sharing networks. Because of the legal dangers online file sharing presents regarding copyrighted materials such as movies or music, web hosting providers such as Bluehost and many others have to take careful action to make sure that nobody is sharing illegal files of any kind on any of their servers.

4. Hosting Pornographic Content or Any Illegal Content

Bluehost does not allow pornographic content of any kind on it's servers. They also do not allow any types of illegal content such as stolen movies, stolen music, illegal gambling material, or any other type of illegal content. Chances are if you are reading this that you don't have any plans for hosting this type of stuff so this doesn't pertain to you.

5. ASP or .NET Code

Bluehost is a Linux web hosting provider not a Windows web hosting provider. And although customizations can be made, if you plan on hosting ASP or .NET code then Bluehost is not going to be the right choice for you. Code such as PHP and Ruby are perfect for Bluehost professional web hosting and all servers are customized to fit those code types needs. Also if you are thinking of hosting ASP and/or .NET code you should probably take a second and ask yourself why as most websites and web 2.0 apps are in some form of PHP, HTML, JavaScript or Ruby.
